Click here to make a racist boomer angry by enrolling to vote. Nearly 11% of 18-24 year olds in Australia aren’t enrolled, while almost EVERY SINGLE person over 55 is. Do we want racist old boomers deciding if Indigenous people are recognised and empowered in our constitution or would you rather make sure young people get a say in what happens?

theauspolchronicles

Shoutout to the person who tried to Blaze this but Tumblr unfortunately rejected it. I guess because it called boomers racist? Idk.

Anyway, organically blaze it the old fashioned way so we can shrink the margin of unenrolled young people and can actually have young people vote on the referendum instead of angry racist old boomers being in control.

The Animation Guild Announces Unionization Efforts At Warner Bros. And Cartoon Network

"Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network production workers are attempting to unionize with The Animation Guild (TAG).

A petition was filed with the National Labor Relations Board today requesting a union election. The petition includes 66 staffers at Warner Bros. Animation and 22 at Cartoon Network, including roles like production manager, digital production assistant, IT technician, production coordinator, production assistant, design production coordinator, assistant production manager and senior assistant production manager.

They are involved in such Warner Bros. projects as Batman: The Caped CrusaderHarley Quinn and Teen Titans Go! and Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time: Fionna and CakeWe Baby Bears and Craig of the Creek.

The workers also requested voluntary recognition from management at the Warner Bros. Discovery subsidiaries.

A tweet was issued confirming the move, which was officially announced earlier on a joint Zoom call.

“Although many might not think it, production is a specialized skill; we might not be artists or writers, but what we bring to the table goes beyond traditional creativity and gets content on the air,” Warner Bros. Animation production manager Hannah Ferenc said in a statement about the organization effort. “Having lived through the existing state of the animation industry for the past seven years, I want to make sure that not only our current workers, but all those who choose to join us in the future, can feel secure in following their passion by earning livable wages and being treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.”

The Animation Guild has already established bargaining units on shows like Rick and MortySolar Opposites, The SimpsonsFamily Guy and American Dad!  It also is active at studios like Titmouse New York and L.A. and ShadowMachine. Establishment at Walt Disney Animation Studios is currently in progress."

A white piece of paper is around a quarter way painted, with only the upper left corner filled. It's patterned blue, black and white. Some blue paint is dripping down onto the unpainted part of the canvas in thin lines.ALT

“Unfinished Painting” — Keith Haring

This painting was left intentionally incomplete. Haring began it when he was dying due to complications from AIDS, and knew he didn’t have much time left. The piece represents the incomplete lives of him and many others, lost to AIDS during the crisis.

The AIDS memorial quilt is shown, with thousands of fabric panels extending over the ground and into the distance. There are houses and a tower in the distance, as well.ALT

“AIDS Memorial Quilt” — Multiple

This quilt is over 50 tons heavy, and one of, if not the, largest pieces of community folk art. Many people who died of AIDS did not receive funerals, due to social stigma and many funeral homes refusing to handle the deceased’s remains, so this was one of the only ways their lives could be celebrated. Each panel was created recognition of someone who died due to AIDS, typically by that person’s loved ones.

A pile of colorful pieces of wrapped candy, in a corner of a room, with beige wallpaper and flooring.ALT

“Untitled” — Felix Gonzalez-Torres

This pile of candy weighs the same amount as an average adult man. Visitors are encouraged to take some of the candy. As they do so, the pile of candy weighs less and less. This is a commentary on how AIDS deteriorates the body of those who have it, as Gonzalez-Torres’ partner, Ross Laycock, had died due to AIDS-related complications that same year.

A photograph of a choir, standing up, in four rows of people. The majority of the choir is wearing black. Only seven people are wearing white.ALT

The SF Gay Men's Chorus

This photo was taken in 1993. The men in white are the surviving original members. Every man in black is standing in for an original member who lost their lives to AIDS.

An older electric fan, held up off the ground by and encased in Plexiglass. There are holes cut in the glass where the fan is running.ALT

“Electric Fan (Feel it Motherfuckers); Only Unclaimed Item from the Stephen Earabino Estate, 1997” — John Boskovich

After the death of his lover, Stephen Earabino, from AIDS, Boskovich discovered that his family had completely cleared his room, including Boskovich’s own possessions, save for this fan. An entire person, existence and relationship had been erased, just like so many lives during the AIDS crisis. Boskovich encased the fan in Plexiglass, but added cutouts so that its air may be felt by the viewer, almost like an exhalation. In a sense, restoring Earabino’s breath.

A movie promotional image. It is a saturated Blue color. In large letters, in the middle, reads, "Blue", in all caps. In smaller letters, at the bottom, reads, "A film by Derek Jarman", in all caps. There are multiple lines of other, smaller text, but they are illegible.ALT

“Blue” — Derek Jarman

This was Jarman’s final feature film, released four months before his death from AIDS-related complications. These complications had left him visually impaired, able to only see in shades of blue. This film consists of a single shot of a saturated blue color, as the soundtrack to the film described Jarman’s life through narration, intercut with the adventures of Blue, a humanization of the color blue. The film's final moments consist of a set of repeated names: “John. Daniel. Howard. Graham. Terry. Paul". These are the names of former lovers and friends of Jarman who had died due to AIDS.

Two completely alike, white analog clocks, against a light wall. The two thickest hands of the clock are black, and the thinnest hand for both is red. The numbers are black. Their faces read the same time.ALT

“Untitled” (Perfect Lovers) — Felix Gonzalez-Torres

Created by the same man who created the previous untitled piece, this piece was also inspired by his lover’s deterioration and death due to AIDS. This piece consists of two perfectly alike clocks. Over the course of time, one of the clocks will fall out of sync with the other.

In a letter written to his lover about the piece, before his lover’s passing, Gonzalez-Tourres wrote, “Don't be afraid of the clocks, they are our time, the time has been so generous to us. We imprinted time with the sweet taste of victory. We conquered fate by meeting at a certain time in a certain space. We are a product of the time, therefore we give back credit were it is due: time. We are synchronized, now forever. I love you.”

  • viola, if @staff listens, we'll be fine

i encourage you to reblog this so we can get as many people leaving feedback as humanly possible. we need to let staff know this is an utterly terrible idea

Morally, most definitely, and I’d take it a step further and say cops shouldn’t be shooting people unless absolutely necessary.

But sadly, if a cop says that someone is a threat because they don’t follow their instructions, often they aren’t legally held responsible for shooting and/or killing that person. Frankly, with body cams, when cops shoot people, that cam footage should be used to determine if the cop used proper judgement on potential threat. Course, they should be trained better because most aren’t and they’re usually the ones who kill more people because they are often taught to shoot first and assess the situation later.

It’s so uncreative and cowardly when designers refuse to make clothes for fat people. Sorry you’re bad at your job I guess.

colorsofsocialjustice

Also predatory and greedy that companies which specialize in clothes for fat people cost 3-4x as much as “regular” sizes. (I get they should cost most, but my logic here is that small and extra small should cost less than medium, large, and extra large.)

Again: Piracy (ie. ROMs) is preservation. Piracy is archives. Piracy is art-affirming in a world which devalues and abandons art.https://t.co/4H2SbzpSaM — Srsly Wrong Podcast (@SrslyWrong) July 14, 2023ALT

I'm just gonna slide this on in here for anyone that is interested in preserving old games. They take it very seriously too, they want an archive of every single game. Like, they have lists of every game ever released for a system, and once that system gets old enough, they add it to their archive and start collecting. Their latest addition was the Xbox 360, they opened that vault up in September 2022, and proudly announced they'd finished their collection of games for it back in April.

Also, while their game archives are almost entirely complete, they've got another project of archiving the manuals that came with those games, and that is... considerably less well filled out. Their collection of Xbox 360 manuals is especially rough, they've only gotten manuals for three games. So if you've got some Xbox 360 games kicking around, and the manual's still with them, please consider scanning them and submitting them to the site!

Game preservation is important, but people rarely consider preserving the manuals as well; I really respect Vimm's Lair for being so thorough in their archival work.

You know your UPS driver. Maybe not by name, but you know them because you rely on them. You see them in your neighborhood every day, with their distinct brown package car, friendly face, and on-time service. Your UPS driver—plus hundreds of thousands of other UPS workers represented by the Teamsters—needs your support, understanding, and compassion. Because they're in a fight for their lives.

Right now, more than 340,000 UPS Teamsters are negotiating a new contract with the world's biggest delivery company. These are human beings who work long hours in extremely demanding jobs to provide for their families. They take pride in their work, with UPS drivers consistently finishing at the top when Americans choose their most liked and trusted professions.

They also sacrifice. UPS workers did not have the option to seek safe haven during the pandemic. As many Americans took advantage of work-from-home options, UPS Teamsters showed up for work without interruption. They made sure all of us, across the nation, got the goods and services we needed to survive. Toilet paper. Diapers. Groceries. Even vaccines, which UPSers delivered long before they were eligible to take them. UPS Teamsters made sure our supply chain kept running and our economy stayed afloat, sacrificing their own health to get the job done.

Since it's not mentioned here, the union contract is set to expire at the end of the month, July 31. That is when the union says it plans to strike, though I'm sure it's already affecting ship times.

This is a p big deal because alternative shipping companies cannot handle their usual work + the overflow from UPS. This upcoming strike is well documented, so it's likely companies will attempt to redirect their needs to places like FedEx and... not much else to say but it will be interesting to see how it all falls apart.

me whenever someone talks about the strike affecting new content: there are three hundered and twenty-six episodes of supernatural

mysteryspotcast

the studio executives causing a resurgence in supernatural fandom would not be their WORST crime, but it would be up there. please. watch anything else. i have heard one piece is good?

colorsofsocialjustice

This is exactly what we should be doing though. Neither union have called for any boycotts, and to boycott would prove to the studios that the writers and actors are wrong, so watching all your favourites, even series long since ended like Buffy or ones that got shafted like Galavant, will help WGA and SAG-AFTRA.

on a serious note regarding the wga strike and (as of 1:50 AM PST 7/13) upcoming sag-aftra strike, dsa-la has a fundraiser called The Snacklist which provides snacks and water on the picket lines here in LA. right now the funds they have will not last through the end of the summer, especially given the current and upcoming heatwaves necessitating more supplies. if you have a couple of dollars to spare it's a great way to directly support the writers (and potentially the actors) during this difficult time!

cmdrtpol

happy first sag-aftra strike in 60 years to all who celebrate.

if you are an enjoyer of media (which i will guess based on your presence on tumblr that you are) please consider donating to the snacklist (linked above) or to any of the following mutual aid funds that directly support striking actors/writers, IATSE and teamster union members who are also out of work and by and large refusing to cross the picket lines, and nonunion PAs and assistants (like yours truly) who are directly impacted by the work stoppage. everyone in this industry works unbelievably hard to bring you the shows, movies, webseries, and variety programs that you enjoy and every worker deserves a fair contract. any support you can give is extremely meaningful.

The Entertainment Community Fund provides emergency financial assistance to anyone in the entertainment industry who is unable to pay their immediate basic living expenses such as housing, food, bills, and healthcare.

The Union Solidarity Coalition has been formed by members of the wga, sag, and the dga to help cover the cost of healthcare for IATSE and teamsters who will not get enough work hours to qualify for their coverage this year due to their refusal to cross a picket line.

The Hollywood Support Staff Relief Fund (also run by the Entertainment Community Fund but separate from the above link which supports all film and tv workers) offers assistance to tv and film support staff and assistants who are not protected by a union and have been displaced from low or entry level positions.

Drive 4 Solidarity is an IATSE organized event in August raising funds for all union and guild members. Tickets are available for those in socal but donations are being taken as well.

Humanitas Groceries for Writers fund provides WGA members with grocery gift cards.

Green Envelope Grocery is a grocery fund for all workers in the entertainment industry regardless of union status.

i know since writers and actors are already striking thats gonna take up most of the news space on social media but like. ups has until july 31st to meet the teamster's demands and if not then theyre going on the biggest strike against a single corporation since the early 1900s. the uaw (auto manufacturers union) contract is up this fall, and i believe the alu (amazon labor union) is as well. there's a huge possibility that they might strike as well, depending on how long the ups strike lasts.

im seeing a lot of talk about hollywood going down but i want to see more talk about labor rights and working class solidarity across the board... like A Lot of shit is about to go down

we're about to see a lot more propaganda by more than just hollywood, we're about to see a lot of bullshit political moves on local, state, and federal levels. dont fall for it. workers have power.
